NATO Is A Dead Man Walking

The gambler does not negotiate with the house. He loses his money, life, and sanity. Zelensky will be lucky if he manages to lose only two out of three of those things.

In politics, as in life, it's important to know your role.

Zelensky overstepped his boundaries in the White House because he's been given an outsized role in this drama. He is a deep state creature who was hired for a job and given talking points to say to Trump. But he's a bad actor. His "nice ocean" line was a threat poorly delivered. Trump seized on it and put him in his place.

He was humiliated before the world. England and Europe tried to quickly rehabilitate his image but that's an impossible task at this point.

Zelensky is tainted goods. The dumb Europeans are too slow to figure it out. They drank the kool-aid. But Trump didn't. Trump is trying to wash America's hands off the messy situation the previous four presidents created. His administration is bringing a new sense of realism to Washington's relations with Russia.

Trump may still desire war with China or Iran, but fighting Russia in its own backyard was always a losing proposition. Trump is smart enough to realize what Napoleon and Hitler did not.

Russia can't be conquered.

The end of the Soviet Union saw the rebirth of a stronger and more cohesive Russia, although it took a generation.

The Soviet Union's demise was a great thing. But NATO's demise will be even greater for world peace and stability.

Trump should take America out of NATO. Let the Europeans take it and run with it. It was Churchill's deformed baby but it's now all grown up. Let it leave the house.

America should create an alliance with Russia.

Canada, as an Arctic power, should also leave NATO and join this new alliance as a junior partner. It should be an Arctic alliance mainly, but grow into a military and strategic alliance in the near future.

Why this alliance?

Why not?

The enmity between North America and Russia has never made any sense. Ideology, historic Jewish grudge against Russia, and the Anglo-American relationship have trumped geographical and economic considerations.

But geopolitics wants a word, too.

America and Russia would form a great alliance, much stronger and better than NATO.
