Say It Ain't So: The EU Designates Hezbollah As A Terrorist Organization

The EU is a joke.

On Monday, the European Union designated Hezbollah, a Lebanese resistance movement and political party, as a terrorist organization.

Secretary of State John Kerry said in a statement in response to the decision: "This designation will have a significant impact on Hezbollah’s ability to operate freely in Europe by enabling European law enforcement agencies to crack down on Hezbollah’s fundraising, logistical activity, and terrorist plotting on European soil."

This is just a silly statement by Kerry and an even sillier decision by the EU. Hezbollah has not conducted terrorist operations anywhere in Europe, and, from what I've read, its fundraising in Europe isn't that substantial.

In an interview with The Real News, Shir Hever, an economist at the Alternative Information Center in Jerusalem, says the EU's decision to label Hezbollah as a terror organization is symbolic more than anything else.

This decision by the EU comes right after it declared a boycott of Israeli settlements. To avoid being viewed as one-sided and anti-Israel, it answered Israel's demand to add Hezbollah to its terrorist list. This proves that there is no intellectual, spiritual, political, or moral depth to the EU. It is a silly organization. If it crashes and burns tomorrow Europe will be better for it.

The EU has also denounced the role of the Egyptian army in Egyptian politics.

The EU can denounce, designate, and boycott all it wants, no one cares what it has to say.

I doubt anyone in Egypt, Israel, or Lebanon cares about what the EU thinks. The EU is not a democratic entity, so its supposed defense of democracy is ludicrous. It is not a moral heavyweight so its boycott of Israeli settlements and its designation of Hezbollah as a terrorist organization are both meaningless acts.

The EU is a lapdog of America. And America, unlike the EU, has a right to have a say in the politics and destiny of the Middle East because it has sacrificed its wealth, blood, and reputation.

The EU is not a political leader or a respectable organization. It should stay out of the politics of the Middle East, and mind its own business. Europe's economy is crumbling. Demographic changes are threatening Europe, and while all of this is happening, the clowns in Brussels are sticking their noses in the political affairs of Lebanon, Syria, Israel, Palestine, and Egypt.
