False flag operations are psychologically powerful because human societies are driven by narratives and victim complexes. No empire or religion has sought out to conquer out of pure blood lust or greed for material things. Stories have to be invented to make all the killing look good.
Even modern Israelis, perhaps the most psychotic society in living memory, need to create moral cover stories and cultivate atrocity propaganda to do what they're currently doing in Gaza.
They didn't just sit back and let Hamas attack them on October 7, they made it happen, giving them the excuse to go into Gaza with some sort of moral and political justification.
But it's not only small countries with a victim mentality that do such things. All countries, empires, and political movements take out the victim card when it suits them. And why wouldn't they? It's a great card. A powerful card. Hitler and the Nazis deployed it to great effect.
But in my research the main culprits who deploy this card on a perpetual basis are those belonging to the Abrahamic faith.
What the Jews, Muslims and Christians all have in common is their reliance on the victim card for their very identity. They can never view themselves as the conqueror, but always the victim, even in victory.
The Christians were "persecuted" by the Romans; the Jews are forever the persecuted minority, hounded to the ends of the earth; the Muslims are always "oppressed" and must avenge this or that wrong. They could be massacring entire fields of people and in the same moment cry and look up to the sky, playing the sorry, hapless victim who was forced to commit such violence.
You can't convince such people why they aren't victims. In the story they tell themselves they must be the victims. And they will always be the victims. Even when Gaza is depopulated and Palestine has been erased, Europe is a wasteland, Islam has died out, and America has fallen, the Israelis will still not accept their victory and continue to look for anti-Semites everywhere, even amongst the stars. Because victims can't ever win. They love being victims too much. They love the sympathy.
