Becoming the most successful female presidential candidate in US history when she ran as the Green Party nominee in the 2012 general election, Dr Jill Stein is a graduate of Harvard Medical School. In 2015, she formally announced her intention to seek the Green Party's nomination once again for the 2016 presidential race. As a fierce advocate for environmental issues, she has outlined a 'Power to the People Plan' which includes a 'Green New Deal' and deep system reforms to areas such as healthcare, education and employment.
"When you look at the election, it's a farce, it's a caricature, it's a mockery of democracy. And, you know, people scoff at it and laugh at it because it is indeed a travesty. But, at other levels, there are very real dynamics that are playing out there in which basically everything is at stake. Our democracy, our civilization, prospects for life on the planet itself. These are all very much in peril by the current regime of corporate rule and its consequences, meaning climate change and endless war, the sixth great extinction, the attack on the rights of immigrants, and so on.

So, these are very important things and it's wonderful to be here discussing them, especially with a younger generation because real change always depends, as you know, and is always really driven by the actions and clear vision of a younger generation, the fresh vision that you bring to the world. And what's at stake now is not only social change, it's potentially the future of humanity on the planet itself. So, no pressure. But anything I can do to help, and I see that for the reason of my being here tonight, to help fan those flames of transformation, and fan the flames in that spirit of rebellion, of peaceful rebellion, on which our future depends." - Dr. Jill Stein.
