Friedrich Hölderlin - The Time of Socrates
Once it was that God set things in order.
Kings.
Wise men.
who judges now?
The people as a whole?
Spiritualists and churchmen?
No? Who then now decides?
a bunch of vipers! cowardly and lying
no noble words now
pass anyone's lips
O in the name
I call down
the ancient spirits
Or send
a hero
Or
wisdom.
