DEMCAD - SHTF: The Lone Wolf and the Community

My quick reaction to the video:

I don't know how bad the coming social and economic collapse will be. But it will have different features and characteristics in different cities, regions, communities, countries, etc.

First off, know everything there is to know about your city/town. Does it have sufficient water resources? Is there a lot of viable farmland? What is the population size? Does the city have a history of crime? How educated are the people in your community? Do you think gangsters and rioters live among you? How good is the physical infrastructure? Are there abandoned homes in your community? How responsible and nice are the police? etc.

Knowledge is just as important as preparation. Know the layout of your city. Know the characteristics of the people around you.

Trust is key, too. Trust your neighbors. Develop strong ties with people around you. Don't be paranoid. Don't be selfish. Be trustworthy, and be honest. Contribute a skill or something to the community. Don't leech off of the resources of other people and groups, and don't allow to be leeched on.

In a worst case scenario (you have no food, no plan), listen to the authorities, who will be happy that you joined them and obeyed their commands. Do not resist them unless you want to be forcefully detained and never seen again by your family members and friends. This is not a betrayal of what you believe in. Don't put on the tough guy act. Blend into your environment. Resistance can wait. What matters more is survival. Deception is key here. If you are not sure that you can survive on your own then stick with the herd and the herd masters, at least for the near term.

I cannot say if being a lone wolf or being part of a community is better. People are different. Whatever works for you, do it. There are pros and cons to both. But if you do join a community, don't turn your back and run when things get down and food runs low. Be loyal.

Hopefully, this decade won't be a total disaster. I think a permanent collapse in a given area is unlikely if communities have local sustainable food resources, strong morale, good leadership, and a loyal and responsible citizenry.

Living in a permanent state of collapse will be hellish for many. We must work towards a political reformation instead of obsessing about how best to survive. In the long run, there won't be a good chance of survival for the majority of us without community. The question is what kind of community will grow out of the rubble? Will we live in a police state dictatorship, as the elite desire, or in a free and decentralized society? That question will be answered by our actions and our choices.
