"It not your enemy who get's you, It's always your own people." - Nas, from the song, "In Between Us," feat. Scarface.John Walsh's new article at CounterPunch.org called "Meet Professor Juan Cole, Consultant to the CIA," peels back the curtain on the CIA's Middle East guru in Michigan. Walsh writes:
Cole claims to be a man of the left and he appears with painful frequency on Amy Goodman’s Democracy Now as the reigning “expert” on the war on Libya. This is deeply troubling – on at least two counts. First, can one be a member of the “left” and also an advocate for the brutal intervention by the Great Western Powers in the affairs of a small, relatively poor country? Apparently so, at least in Democracy Now’s version of the “left.” Second, it appears that Cole’s essential function these days is to convince wavering progressives that the war on Libya has been fine and dandy. But how can such damaged goods as Cole credibly perform this marketing mission so vital to Obama’s war?The picture that Walsh paints of Cole is not a friendly one. It seems Cole is in on the take, the one that the CIA, corporate media, and academic are all in on. The scam is to keep the American people in the dark about 9/11 truth, and preserve a moral narrative about the Empire's criminal wars overseas.
Miraculously, Cole got just the rehabilitation he needed to continue with this vital propaganda function when it was disclosed by the New York Times on June 15 that he was the object of a White House inquiry way back in 2005 in Bush time. The source and reason for this leak and the publication of it by the NYT at this time, so many years later, should be of great interest, but they are unknown.
Professors like Cole are gifted at double talk and inventing propaganda talking points for the CIA. If Cole was a real Iraq war critic he would courageously expose the official 9/11 lie that was used to justify America's aggression against Iraq in 2003.
But Cole is not a critic, he is a cheerleader. Except, his cheering is a bit different than the cheering done by the media. He's doesn't wave and dance in front of the line, but he helps choreograph dance sequences and cheer routines in a more sophisticated way.
Through their snake-like prose, war propagandists on the payroll of the CIA like Cole have normalized the unnatural state of war that the Bush administration, neocons, Zionists, CIA, and Mossad created on 9/11 when they attacked the World Trade Center and Pentagon.
War propagandists and CIA desk analysts have never seen war up close, or seen their loved ones die because of military aggression, but they like it when America and NATO drops bombs on innocent women and children in the name of democracy and freedom. It makes them feel special and good inside. Why? Because propagandists like Cole are sick in the head.
They love cheering for war and telling people what to think because in their hubris filled minds they know better than everyone else. Their aim is to totally change the Middle East and set up puppet governments to replace anti-Western regimes. And their thinking is that you've got to crack a few eggs to make an omelette. The Twin Towers were the eggs.
And propagandists like dishing dirt, too. They call Ron Paul, who is a real anti-war voice, a nutcase who isn't fit to be President. They call Alex Jones, who exposed the 9/11 lie as the attacks were happening, a crazy conspiracy theorist. They demonize foreign leaders who criticize U.S. policy in the Middle East and portray their regimes as security threats to the United States.
In response to Iranian President Ahmadinejad's claim that 9/11 was an inside job, Juan Cole said the idea that the U.S. and Israeli intelligence agencies were behind the 9/11 attacks is a "‘truther’ crackpot conspiracy theory." He also said that anti-Semitism explains why people, especially in Middle Eastern countries, believe Israel had a hand in bringing down the twin towers on September 11, 2001.
Cole insulted millions of people in America and around the world who believe the official 9/11 story is a lie because he can't engage with the facts. The truth is not on the side of the U.S. government.
But calling people who tell the truth a bunch of anti-Semitic and crazy conspiracy theorists isn't working like it used to in the old days when the people were asleep and the mainstream media was dominant.
Times have changed. The American people and the people of other Western countries know that the real enemies of freedom and peace are criminals in suits who strike the people within the realm, not shadowy terrorists.
Al-Qaeda is a trained dog with a leash around its neck that's handled by the CIA, MI6 and Mossad. Secret intelligence agencies are the armies that most threaten America and the free world. The CIA moves in the dark, and counts among its ranks Islamic figureheads like Osama Bin Laden and war propagandists like Juan Cole.
Cole is many things; a CIA front-man, a professor, and a warmongering weasel. Lucky for him, honesty and integrity are not needed to teach students or to work for the CIA.
Cole's blog, Informant Comment, is enemy territory. Keep away. What you'll get from reading Cole is not illumination, but propaganda. He offers the poisonous bite of the snake with soothing words to hide the sting.
