But Dagan is not a peacenik now that he is out of the service. He is not against an attack on Iran; he is against an Israeli-led attack on Iran. Former CIA officer Philip Giraldi told Antiwar.com's Scott Horton in an interview on July 21 that Dagan "figures it would be a disaster for Israel to attack Iran, but not such a bad thing for the United States to do it, that the United States could actually do it, and successfully destroy a lot of Iran's nuclear infrastructure, which Israel can't do."
I thought Dagan is a honourable and sane man who is calling for world peace. Guess not. He is just another warmonger who wants America to fight Israel's phony wars.
Giraldi also said that "if Israel were to start a war with Iran the U.S. would indeed get dragged in. I don't see any possible scenario to stay out of it that Obama would have the guts to embrace."
Giraldi and Horton said that Israel is blackmailing America into a catastrophic war with Iran by firing the first shot against Iran and forcing the Obama administration into a shaky political situation. The stupid and traitorous Congress, AIPAC, and the corporate media will pressure the Obama administration to join Israel's war with Iran and help defend history's perpetual "victim."
The consequences of an Israeli attack on Iran will be suffered by American troops in Afghanistan and Iraq because once Iran is under attack the generals and mullahs will not differentiate between Israel and the United States. They want war just as badly as the crazy monsters in Israel and Washington.
What we're facing as a species and a global civilization is hellfire on Earth. Don't count on sane and rational men in the U.S., Israeli and Iranian governments to start chanting "We are the world, We are the children, We are the ones who make a brighter day, So let's start giving." The hooligans who run Washington, Israel and Iran love death and war. Iran's regime was bathe in blood in the 1980s. Israel has been at war with its neighbours since its founding (mostly due to greedy and stupid Israeli leadership). And America? My god! The neocons and top generals in the Pentagon are death personified. There are very dangerous personalities in Washington who are using their influence to push America into a war against Iran.
We're looking at three military dictatorships who need to fight wars to survive and avoid reform and/or revolution from within. Israel needs foreign enemies to create a perpetual state of war in order to sabotage the peace process and bulldoze Palestinian homes. The mullahs need foreign enemies to artificially maintain unity with Iran. And the CIA and Pentagon need foreign enemies to justify massive military spending and war profiteering. The warhawks there spend their lives thinking about new weapons, new battlefields, and new enemies. It is total madness.
If it weren't for former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mullen and former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, America would already be at war with Iran. Back in April, 2010, Admiral Mullen said an American attack on Iran is a grave mistake. At the time, Robert Dreyfuss wrote in The Nation:
The other day I spoke to Chas Freeman, the former U.S. ambassador to Saudi Arabia and the man who was nominated a year ago to head President Obama's National Intelligence Council, the chief analytical body for the U.S. intelligence community. (That appointment, you'll remember, was shot down by the Israel lobby.) According to Freeman, the military is against attacking Iran for reasons that include the fact that nearly 200,000 U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan are hostages, whose vital lifelines, including logistical lines running from the Persian Gulf north to U.S. bases in Iraq, would be attacked by Iranian-supported militias if the United States hits Iran.
Therefore the changes in leadership at the Pentagon are not merely an American story. The chance that Dempsey, at the start of his term of office, would advise Obama to attack Iran, or to permit Israel to do so, is not high. The outgoing head, Mullen, is likewise not enthusiastic about that but his ties with the IDF's general staff are close and it can be assumed that, if Benny Gantz was persuaded to sign a plan by Benjamin Netanyahu and Ehud Barak, Mullen would not be happy but would also not torpedo it.
The conclusion is that between the end of June and Gates' retirement, and the end of September and Mullen's retirement, the danger that Netanyahu and Barak will aim at a surprise in Iran is especially great, especially since this would divert attention from the Palestinian issue. As the Supreme Court explained to Moshe Katsav's lawyers, some plans for summer vacations might be canceled.
If the crazies in Israel and America didn't have nukes I wouldn't be frightened. Their craziness is inspiring Iranian craziness. If this was 1811 you and I could enjoy living our lives and read about war in the newspaper: "Napoleon sacks London." So what. Who cares.
But today we are all threatened by war, no matter where we live. The technology of war has made war a useless and dangerous method. We are in the thick of the nuclear age and the war-minded lunatics are still running the show. Let's face the facts. Military generals are the enemies of mankind. Secret armies like the CIA, MI6 and Mossad are the enemies of mankind. So-called philosophers of war like the neocons are the enemies of mankind. Ruling elites that drive nations to war are the enemies of mankind. Weapons manufacturers are the enemies of mankind. Financiers who finance empires and push them to war to make greater war profits are the enemies of mankind. Warmongering politicians are the enemies of mankind. War propagandists like Jeffrey Goldberg are the enemies of mankind.
President John F. Kennedy said: "Mankind must put an end to war or war will put an end to mankind." We better start listening to what this great man had to say.
