Iran 1979: A revolution betrayed

The speaker is Torab Saleth, who is a member of Workers Left Unity Iran. He was elected to be part of the Steering committee of Hands Off the People of Iran. He was also a member of the International Executive Committee of the USFI (United Secretariat of the Fourth International) during the 1979 revolution. His basic point is that the Islamic tyrants hijacked the revolutionary movement, and deceived their way into power. They promised the Iranian people that Islamic practice would be voluntary in society, but reversed their stance shortly after. The hard battles that were waged by the Left in Iran against the Shah were all for nothing. And once Iraq attacked, all dissent was violently suppressed. The war allowed the Islamic rulers to take more radical positions in the name of national survival, and transform the nation into an Islamic prison.
